Definition

A passenger carrying vehicle that:

• is designed and constructed to carry people; and
• has a seating capacity for 10 adults, including the driver.

How to Calculate Fees Payable

1. Rebates or exemptions
   Determine if the client is eligible for any rebates or exemptions and adjust any calculations accordingly. See Vehicle Registration Rebates & Exemptions.
2. Registration Fee (Includes Fire Levy)
    - $61.15 + $15.00 = $76.15 normal rate
    - $31.90 + $10.00 = $41.90 pensioner rate;
3. Road Safety Levy 
    -  $20.00 normal rate
    -  $12.00 pensioner rate
4. Motor Tax
   Determine the number of seats (including the driver) then the Motor Tax. See Scales & Rates Of Motor Tax for Buses.
5. MAIB
   Determine the MAIB Premium Paid (includes the Premium Paid Duty) from the  MAIB Vehicle and Premiums Classification Card
6. Inspection Fees for Registration
   Include the Vehicle Inspection Fee if the vehicle has been inspected by other than an Authorised Inspection Station. See Vehicle Inspection Fees.
7. Registration Plate Fee
   Include the Registration Plate Fee for new registrations or if the vehicle is to be re-registered. Standard plates are $17.95. If retaining existing number plates (Tasmanian only) then no plate fee will be charged.
8. Duty
   Duty is calculated on the market value of the vehicle. Applicable only for registration issue, re-issue & registration transfers, See Duty Rates.

Note: Duty has not been included in any calculations below. MAIB premiums in the examples are for a Bus used for hire and reward (public passenger vehicle).
