Definition
Commercial goods vehicle with a GVM >3t and <4.5t. This includes:
- Utilities
- Trucks
- Vans
How to Calculate Fees Payable
- Determine if the client is eligible for any rebates or exemptions and adjust any calculations accordingly. See Vehicle Registration Concessions, Rebates & Exemptions
Registration Fee (Includes Fire Levy)
- $61.15 + $15.00 = $76.15 normal rate
- $31.90 + $10.00 = $41.90 pensioner rate
Road Safety Levy
- $20.00 normal rate
- $12.00 pensioner rate
Motor Tax
Determine the number of engine cylinders or the type of engine (rotary, electric) the GVM (Light trucks) or seating capacity (Buses).
MAIB
Determine the MAIB Premium Paid (includes the Premium Paid Duty) from the MAIB Vehicle and Premiums Classifications Card.
Vehicle Inspection Fee
Include the Vehicle Inspection Fee if the vehicle has been inspected by other than an Authorised Inspection Station. See Vehicle Inspection Fees.
Registration Plate Fee
Include the Registration Plate Fee for new registrations or if the vehicle is to be re-registered. Standard Plates are $17.95. If retaining existing number plates (Tasmanian only) then no plate fee will be charged.
Duty
Duty is calculated on the market value of the vehicle. Applicable only for registration issue, re-issue & registration transfers, see Duty Rates.

* Note: 40% Rebate for motor tax in table 11 applies to both pensioners and farmers in the following cases:
- Farmers may apply for the rebate on commercial vehicles by completing an annual statutory declaration stating that the vehicle will be used solely for farming or horticulture pursuits.
- Pensioners under the Social Security or Repatriation Act may apply for the rebate on commercial vehicles (<= 4.5t GVM) by completing an annual statutory declaration stating that the vehicle will not be used for any trade or business.
