Background

The construction of the Dilston Bypass on the East Tamar Highway will improve the safety, freight efficiency and provide an upgraded transport link with Bell Bay Port.

The project includes two kilometres of dual carriageway and seven kilometres of three lane highway with a wire rope safety fence separating opposing traffic streams, as well as replacing the existing Barnards Creek Bridge with a new four lane bridge.

The Launceston City Council has approved a revised development application which incorporates a southbound underpass ramp on the southern junction and fog detection speed reduction signs for the northern seagull junction.

The Dilston Bypass is fully funded by the Australian Government.

Measures to help reduce roadkill will be a feature of the project and there has already been extensive consultation with property owners to minimise the impact on farming operations during the construction period.
