Pre-provisional Motorcycle Training Course
Before obtaining a provisional motorcycle licence you are required to successfully complete the pre-provisional motorcycle training course. To attend the pre-provisional training course you must be at least 17 years of age and have held a motorcycle learner licences continuously for at least 6 months.
Anyone wishing to obtain a provisional licence must attend unless they live on Flinders, Cape Barren or King Islands.

Bookings are essential and fees must be paid at this time. DECA Training's website (www.deca.com.au) provides further information concerning the pre-provisional motorcycle training course and an on-line booking facility. The course is one 8 hour course.

St Marys - St Marys District High School
Customers need to provide the following when attending the course.
- a current motorcycle learner licence, held continuously for at least 6 months
- a registered, roadworthy and Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) motorcycle (DECA Training can supply a LAMS Approved motorcycle for an additional fee, if arranged prior to the course)
- sturdy footwear
- appropriate protective clothing providing full skin cover
- approved helmet (AS1698) and appropriate gloves (helmet and gloves can be provided)
Customers who fail the Alternate Motorcycle Operator Skill Test (Alternate MOST)
Customers who successfully complete the training and on-road component of the pre-provisional motorcycle training course but fail the Alternate MOST cannot do the test again on the same day.
The customer:
- must wait at least one week before attempting the test again
- should attempt the test again within four weeks
- must pass the test within 6 months from the date of the first test (maximum of 3 attempts at this test).
If these criteria are not met, the customer must attend and pass the pre-provisional motorcycle training course. In the case of a Tasmanian licence holder - this will mean undertaking the course again. For overseas conversions it will mean undertaking the course for the first time.
Customer receives
The customer will receive a Certificate of Competence (valid for 3 months) on the successful completion of the course.
Payment
The customer needs to pay the course fee direct to DECA Training.
