Service for the Deaf or Hearing-Impaired

The Tasmanian Deaf Society (Tasdeaf) serves the needs of people with hearing disabilities. The Society provides information, advocacy, individual and family support, and interpreting.

Interpreter Service

For customers having difficulty understanding English, arrangements can be made to have an interpreter present for knowledge and practical tests.

Service Tasmania shops or Registration and Licensing Services will make an appointment with the Interpreter Service and make any necessary test bookings and advise the applicant of the date and time.

Appointments for the Service must be made at least two weeks before the date of the knowledge and practical tests. The cost of an interpreter is met by the Registration and Licensing Services.

Ample notice of an inability to attend is necessary otherwise the cost of the interpreter may be recovered from the customer.
