41. What happens from the 27th of April 2009 if I hold a car learner licence?
From the 27th of April 2009, the L1 and L2 stages will be introduced for novice drivers. If you hold a current learner licence as of the 27 April 2009 you will automatically be treated as being in the L2 stage and any supervised hours you have completed will count towards the required 50 supervised hours.
42. What happens if my car learner licence is expired, cancelled or disqualified as of the 27 April 2009?
If you have an expired, cancelled or disqualified learner licence as of the 27 April 2009 and you wish to reapply for a learners licence you will enter at the L1 stage and will have to comply with the L1 licence requirements.
43. What happens if I hold a learners licence before the 27 April 2009 and it expires after the 27 April 2009?
You will be deemed to be in the L2 learner stage if you hold a learners licence prior to the 27 April 2009 and it expires after the 27 April 2009.
If your L2 licence is renewed on or prior to expiry, the expiry date is increased by 3 years. If an L2 is renewed after expiry but within 28 days of expiry, the expiry date is 3 years from the date of payment. In both examples the minimum requirement to hold a learner licence (prior to the 27th April 2009 was 6 continuous months) has been met.
If an L2 licence is expired for greater than 28 days the 'earliest P1 assessment date' is reset and you must complete 9 continuous months.
With every L2 renewal the driver knowledge test must be passed.
