Community / not-for-profit transport sector - temporary exemptions for small passenger vehicles

DIER has recently received legal advice indicating that some transport providers in the community services / not-for-profit sector are technically carrying passengers  for reward using small passenger vehicles (that is, vehicles with less than 13 seats including the driver). This creates a legal obligation on the provider to obtain  operator accreditation and on all drivers transporting passengers in these vehicles to apply for ancillary certificates.  However, DIER is in the process of creating  temporary exemptions for small passenger vehicles operated by the community transport sector.

The following Q&As should help you to understand how changes to the Passenger Transport Act 1997 and Vehicle and Traffic Act 1999 will affect your transport  operation and/or volunteer driving and instructing arrangements.
