Registration Issues and renewals from 1 October 2000
All special purpose vehicles currently classed as not exceeding legal axle limits on any axle or axle group have been sorted into plant and truck type special purpose vehicles.
Registration renewals will advise clients of their new category. For plant type vehicles the motor tax charge will continue to be nil. Truck type vehicles will be required to pay an annual motor tax charge of $200.
New registrations of special purpose vehicles will require the completion of a SPECIAL PURPOSE CLASSIFICATION REPORT and a vehicle inspection for truck based vehicles.
If clients disagree with the classification on their registration renewal they may arrange to have the vehicle inspected by a Departmental Inspection Station prior to registration renewal.
