Rebates & Concessions
Rebates and concessions are available on a range of motor vehicles and driver licensing fees.
Pensioners (including Health Care Card Holders)
To be eligible for a concession you must present one of the following current concession cards;
- health care card issued in accordance with the Social Security Act 1991 of the Commonwealth; or
- pensioner concession card issued in accordance with the Socail Security Act 1991 of the Commonwealth or as a fringe benefit under the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986 or the Commonwealth; or
- Gold Card or White Card issued in accordance with the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986 or the Commonwealth;
On initial application for a concession a Statutory Declaration must be completed this declaration also requires the pensioner to provide their concession card displaying the Centrelink Customer Reference Number or Department of Veterans Affairs number.
Vehicle Registration Concessions
A concession is limited to one vehicle in each vehicle class. FOr example a person can receive a concession on one car, one trailer, one motorcycle or one caravan.
Transport Access Scheme and TPI Pensioners
Members of the Transport Access Scheme (TAS) are eligible for a concession on registration. TAS members and Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) pensioners are eligible for an exemption from motor tax and duty for one vehicle registered in their name.
Commercial Vehicle Concession
Pensioners or health care card holders who own a commercial vehicle that they do not intend to use for business or trade purposes are also entitled to a further 40% rebate on motor tax if the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) does not exceed 4.5 tonnes.
To obtain this they must complete a Statutory Declaration each year at the time of renewal.
Farmers Rebate
Farmers are entitled to a 40% rebate on the motor tax for commercial goods vehicles only. No proof is required for farmers to receive this rebate, however a Statutory Declaration must be completed each year at the time of renewal.
If a motor vehicle has a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 16 tonnes (over 4.5 tonnes for a trailer) the vehicle must display concessional registration plates. These can be purchased at a Service Tasmania shop and the old plates must be handed in.

Driver Licensing Concessions
Concessions are available on the issue or renewal of a full or provisional drivers licence see -
There are no concessions on the issue or renewal of a learner licence.
Licence holders aged 65 and over are unable to receive a further concession as they are exempt from paying the driver licence fee and only pay the photo fee on issue or renewal of their drivers licence.
