Why is the Department of State Growth doing work on this road?

This project is part of a Departmental strategy to strengthen or replace bridges on key routes in Tasmania to retain the existing levels of service for heavy vehicle freight and community access.

The existing bridge was constructed in 1945 and was identified as a high priority for upgrade or replacement as required to meet the future increase in heavy vehicle tasks.

Construction

The project is programmed to go to tender in mid 2017, with construction commencing in late 2017 and continuing until mid 2019.
