Why is the Department of State Growth doing work on this road?
This project is part of a Departmental strategy to strengthen bridges on key freight roads in Tasmania to retain the existing High Productivity Vehicle (HPV) and High Mass Limit (HML) approved roads as strategic freight routes.
The existing bridge was constructed in 1940 and was identified as a high priority for replacement to meet the future increase in heavy vehicle tasks.
The project is currently out to tender. Construction of the project is scheduled to commence in late 2017. The road works will be performed under an approved traffic management plan by the contractor to ensure the least possible disruption to road users.
Speed restrictions and altered traffic conditions will be in place throughout the construction period to ensure a safe work place for construction staff and the travelling public. Delays are to be expected in the vicinity of the construction works at times. Please obey all signs and allow extra time for travelling through the construction site.
