HEAVY TRUCK SAFETY ADVISORY COUNCIL |
The Purpose of the Heavy Truck Safety Advisory Council is to:
- Provide leadership within the transport industry on safety initiatives and high level advice to the Minister for Infrastructure on strategies to improve heavy truck safety in Tasmania.
- Provide high level advice to the Minister for Infrastructure on safety and infrastructure protection initiatives that form part of the national heavy vehicle transport reform agenda.The Heavy Truck Safety Advisory Council has a State-wide heavy truck safety focus.
The Council Will:
- Identify safety initiatives that could be implemented by the heavy truck industry and Government and make appropriate recommendations to the Minister for Infrastructure;
- Work with and encourage the heavy truck industry to identify, take ownership of, develop and implement solutions that will address safety issues in the heavy truck industry;
- Work with key community and local government stakeholders to develop and progress heavy truck road safety initiatives;
- Advise on productivity improvement initiatives to ensure improved safety and infrastructure protection outcomes;
- Actively promote and assist with managing the introduction of safety improvement changes in Tasmania, together with the introduction of heavy vehicle safety and productivity initiatives that form part of the national heavy vehicle reform agenda;
- Explore funding opportunities from within the heavy truck industry and government to progress safety initiatives; and
- Maintain the currency of information in the Tasmanian Heavy Vehicle Safety Code.
