Vehicle Inspections

When a motor vehicle or trailer is inspected for a registration the entire vehicle is checked. In the case of a motor vehicle, the examiner would check the outside of the vehicle (excessive rust etc.), the inside of the vehicle (seat belts, seat backs etc.), under the bonnet (oil leaks etc.) and underneath (brakes, exhaust etc).

A identity check is also carried out, the Examiner will record all of the vehicles details which are then entered onto the Database at the time of registration.

Steering
Suspension
Chassis/Frame
Wheels
Tyres
Exhaust System
Oil/Fuel Leaks
Lamps (head, tail)
Indicators
Stop lamps
Seat Belts
Horn
Mirrors
Windscreen wipers/washers
Reflectors & Marker lamps
(trucks & trailers)
Mudguards
(trucks & trailers)

Light Vehicles

All light vehicle pre-registration inspections are undertaken by Approved Inspection Stations (AIS)

Heavy Vehicles

All heavy vehicles are inspected by Divisional Officers at Division of Transport Locations
