The following fees/charges are NOT included in the above calculations:

  • Inspection fees (required when establishing and re-establishing)
  • Duty and Transfer fees (payable when there is a change in operator/s. Duty is unique to each vehicle and is calculated on its market value)
  • Periodic registration costs (additional changes when renewing or establishing registration for periods less than 12 months, 6 months registrations is available for these vehicles)

Trailers, Caravans, Horse Floats and Plant Trailers:  

  • with an unladen mass up to 500kg do not require an MAIB premium (covered by towing vehicle)
  • with an unladen mass greater than 500kgs require a class 10 (Heavy Trailers) or class 9 (Caravans and Horse Floats) MAIB Premium NOTE: a Heavy Trailer is defined for purposes of MAIB calculations to be greater than 500kg.  A Heavy Trailer is defined for purposes of motor tax calculations to be more than 4.5t GTM.

Use an Existing Plate

If retaining an existing Tasmanian number plate then no plate fee will be applicable saving you $18.63 (Establish and Re-establish registration)
