Watch out for changed traffic conditions at the Hobart airport roundabout from Monday, 10 May 2021 as part of Hobart Airport Interchange Project.

  • There will be four instead of five exits on the roundabout, with Cranston Parade and Hobart-bound Tasman Highway traffic using the same exit.
  • Traffic heading to Hobart will need to exit the roundabout via a new, sealed link road, which will pass Cranston Parade and then join back onto the Tasman Highway via a new connection. If you’re coming from the airport, take the first exit to head to access the new link road, if you’re coming from Sorell, take the second exit.
  • Traffic heading to Sorell will need to leave the Tasman Highway via a new, sealed exit lane, which will pass Kennedy Drive to enter the roundabout and then turn left onto the Tasman Highway.
  • If you are travelling from Sorell to the airport, there will be no change.

While the new arrangements may look complex, they will be straightforward as you drive through the site, and signs will be in place to guide you. The diversions will come into effect after 10 am on Monday, 10 May and will be in place until early 2022.

To keep everyone safe, the speed limit through the project site will be reduced to 40km/h to allow road users to get used to the new arrangements. The reduced speed limit may affect travel times, so allow for 10 minutes extra time.

Please plan ahead, keep to the speed limits and follow the signs. We recognise these works will cause inconvenience and thank road users for their patience.

This is part of a suite of projects already in planning or underway, which, when completed, will see the Tasman Highway, including the causeways, duplicated all the way through to Sorell.

The overpass will lift the Tasman Highway over Kennedy Drive and Holyman Avenue. This will allow traffic on the highway to travel through the intersection with reduced delays and improved access to and from the Hobart Airport.

The new overpass will make the road safer, reduce traffic congestion, and allow for future increases in traffic.

The design of the overpass is similar to the overpass constructed at the intersection of Huon Highway and Summerleas Road at Kingston.
