The new traffic lights will replace the old roundabout from Wednesday, 27 July 2022
Watch out for traffic changes on the Tasman Highway at Midway Point from Wednesday, 27 July 2022 as we get closer to finishing the Midway Point intersection upgrade.
A traffic switch will take place on the Tasman Highway at Midway Point, and the newly built traffic lights will be turned on.
The new traffic lights have replaced the old roundabout to improve traffic flow.
The latest switch will see traffic travelling from Sorell towards Hobart move to the new left-hand lane (southern side) while traffic travelling towards Sorell will stay in the left lane (northern side).
This will make a gap in the lanes to allow work on the centre turning lanes and median.
The speed limit through the project site will at times be reduced to 40 km/hr to keep everyone safe while road users get used to the new traffic lights and conditions.
The reduced speed limit may affect travel times so please continue to allow extra time for your journey.
When finished, the Midway Point Intersection Solution will provide two lanes in each direction through Midway Point, helping traffic move through the intersection more quickly and provide reliable access to the highway.
