Tasman Highway/Holyman Avenue roundabout interim traffic options
The Department of State Growth will investigate options to improve traffic flow on the Tasman Highway at the Holyman Avenue roundabout, ahead of the major project to upgrade the Hobart Airport Interchange.
The new Hobart Airport Interchange project will upgrade and widen Tasman Highway, and provide a four-lane overpass to improve connections to the airport and Cambridge Park.
Planning for this project has progressed significantly. Australian Government environmental approval and Tasmanian Government approvals have already been received, and a development application is currently being considered by Clarence City Council.
However, this is a large and complex project that requires further Commonwealth approvals before tenders can be called, and it will be built in stages over two summers.
While the interchange project is being progressed, the Department of State Growth is examining interim options to improve traffic flow and efficiency for commuters using the Holyman Avenue roundabout.
A range of options are being considered and may involve temporary lanes, traffic signals, passenger transport service changes or other solutions that are compatible with the long term Airport Interchange project.
Options to be considered will aim to improve the efficiency of the existing highway and connections with Kennedy Drive and Holyman Avenue.
The Department will continue to liaise with key stakeholders on proposed changes.
