Forms and how to lodge

You will be required to present the appropriate application form for the type of licence you are applying for, the required evidence and the appropriate fee.  You MUST have completed any required knowledge or training course prior to lodging the application.

NOTE:  Taxi Training Courses are provided throughout the state but there are limitations on dates and availability. Driver Knowledge Test can be undertaken at a Service Tasmania shop prior to lodging your application.

To operate a Taxi (PPV – Taxi)

Form: MR93 Ancillary Certificate to Drive a Taxi (PDF, 530.5 KB) | (DOCX, 157.65 KB)

Lodge your completed application at Service Tasmania   If approved you can begin operating PPV’s straight away. If there is a problem with your application it will be sent to the Department of State Growth and you will be contacted within 7 business days.

Valid: 12 months

Renewal: A renewal notice will be sent to you before your Ancillary Certificate expires.

To operate Public Passenger Vehicles (Excluding Taxis)

Form: MR92 Ancillary Certificate to Drive a Public passenger Vehicle (PDF, 526.5 KB) | (DOCX, 194.18 KB)

Lodge your completed application at Service Tasmania   If approved you can begin operating PPV’s straight away. If there is a problem with your application it will be sent to the Department of State Growth and you will be contacted within 7 business days.

Valid: 12 months

Renewal: A renewal notice will be sent to you before your Ancillary Certificate expires.

To be a Driving Instructor 

Form: MR111 Ancillary Certificate in Driving Instruction (PDF, 398.85 KB) | (DOCX, 156.03 KB)

Lodge your completed application at Service Tasmania.  
Applications are assessed by State Growth and you will be advised of the outcome of your application within 7 business days. You can begin to instruct as soon as you have received your Instructor Identification card.

Valid: 3 years

Renewal:  A renewal notice will be sent to you before your Driving Instructor Ancillary Certificate expires.

To operate a Ride Source Vehicle

Code: PPV-Other (With ‘X’ condition)

If applying to  operate a Ride Source vehicle contact a Platform Provider for information on how to apply. They will submit your application to State Growth on your behalf or you can lodge your application by emailing the required application form and documentation to ridesource@stategrowth.tas.gov.au.

Valid: 12 months

Renewal: A renewal notice will be sent to you before your Ancillary Certificate expires.  The nominated Ride Source vehicle(s) must have undergone the required inspection for the Ancillary Certificate to be renewed.
