1When can I get my L2 licence?

When you:

  • have held your L1 licence for at least a minimum continuous period of 3 months
  • are older than 16 years and 3 months
  • feel you’re ready to progress to your L2s.

How do I apply for my L2 licence?

  • You are no longer required to sit the L2 driving assessment.  You can apply online to progress to the L2 stage.  There is no cost to apply and if approved you will be sent a new licence card in the mail.

2Conditions on L2 licence holders

Once you get your L2 learner licence, you will have to obey all the licence conditions that applied to you during the L1 stage. The only difference in conditions for L2 drivers are the speed restrictions, which will allow you to drive:

  • 90km/h in a 90km/h zone
  • 90km/h in a 100km/h zone
  • 100km/h in a 110km/h zone.

Logging your hours

Current L2 licence holders will continue to be able to sit their P1 driving assessment after logging a minimum of 50 hours supervised driving over at least 9 months.

It is recommended that you complete at least 80 hours supervised driving in your log book over the learner period to get more on-road experience, including 15 hours of night driving.
