SPEED LIMIT CHANGES FOR L2 AND P1 CAR DRIVERS

From 2 March 2015, the current maximum speed limit of 80km/h for L2 and P1 drivers will be changed.

The new maximum speed limits for L2 and P1 car drivers will be:

 These new changes do not apply to L1 car drivers, motorcycle learners and motorcycle P1 licence holders. The maximum speed will remain at 80km/h.

 SAFETY TIPS

  • P1 drivers should gain experience at the new speeds in a supervised environment before driving at these speeds alone.
  • Make sure you understand where these limits apply.
  • Make sure you are comfortable before driving at the speeds.


  • L2 drivers should log at least 25 hours in a supervised environment before attempting to drive supervised at the higher speeds.
  • Maintain a safe speed and always drive to the conditions, especially on rural roads.
  • Slow down, be alert and pay attention at all times when driving.
