National Disability Insurance Scheme

In July 2013, Tasmania commenced a trial of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

During the NDIS trial, over 1000 eligible Tasmanians aged 15‑24 years old became participants in the NDIS. The Tasmanian Government has signed an agreement with the Australian Government to expand the NDIS to include other eligible Tasmanians from 1 July 2016.

As the NDIS expands to cover all eligible Tasmanians, there will be some changes to the Transport Access Scheme taxi subsidies and Conveyance Allowance Scheme.  For more information please refer to:

Transport Access Scheme

The Transport Access Scheme provides assistance to people who have a permanent and severe disability. The Scheme incorporates the Australian Disability Parking Permit and the Taxi Subsidy Scheme.
