Northern Region General Access Bus Network – For Public Consultation

Consultation process for the northern network

Towns and regions outside Launceston

As part of the review process State Growth has been undertaking broad community engagement including talking to the existing bus operators and local communities to work out if, and how, current services can be improved. We have also been gathering information via our website, phone and face to face discussions for the past two years from communities on public transport in their local area.

Services to Mole Creek, Deloraine, Westbury and Carrick will be changing later in 2020 to align with changes in the North West. Consultation on these proposed changes will occur with the Meander Valley community later this year.

The proposed changes to bus services in towns and regions only apply to general access (public) bus services and do not apply to dedicated school services. However, schools and parents may need to check proposed changes to general access services, if students are using these services to get to schools.

Metro Tasmania conducted extensive public and stakeholder consultation in 2016.

Leveraging off this process and Project 2018’s review of bus services more broadly across the north of the State a new network of services is now proposed for Launceston to deliver a smarter, more frequent and simpler network to reflect the city’s requirements and strong support for more direct, simplified routes and timetables.

We are seeking your feedback to finalise proposed service changes for the northern region. You can view the proposed changes online, including draft timetables and route maps, and provide comment until 14 June 2019 via the feedback form, email or phone 6166 3343 (between 9am-5pm). Please leave a message if the phone is busy.

Metro Tasmania will also be conducting consultation with schools on associated changes to Metro’s dedicated school services which operate within Launceston. Metro will contact schools on proposed changes during May 2019.

Proposed implementation of northern region bus network

To ensure a thorough consultation process for the northern region bus network and to enable us to ensure the community is made aware of the final network well before any changes occur, the new network will be implemented in January 2020.
