Goderich Street - intersection upgrades
The Tasmanian Government has funded the Goderich Street Intersection Upgrades project in Invermay, to meet the suburbs growing traffic demands.
We’re upgrading the intersections of Goderich Street and Forster Street, and Goderich Street Gleadow Street to improve travel time reliability and provide continued access for active transport.
The upgrades will be completed over two stages, beginning with the intersection at Forster Street.
Stage one will create an extra right turn lane from Goderich Street onto Forster Street. A second lane will be constructed along Forster Street to Invermay Road.
Stage two will happen at Gleadow Street. Traffic lights will be installed to allow for both left and right turns onto Goderich Street.
As a part of the project some trees will need to be removed. The Department is working closely with the City of Launceston to preserve as many trees as possible, and all tree removal will be approved by the City of Launceston.
We will be working between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm from Monday to Saturday, weather permitting, except for a short period of night works in May.
We will work at night from Monday 4 May to Friday 22 May, between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am, on Goderich Street and Forster Street. We will complete all noisy works such as road cutting and vacuum excavation before 10:00 pm and turn off machinery and vehicles when not in use.
One lane of traffic in each direction will be open at all times along Goderich Street during the project.
Two lanes will be open in each direction during peak travel times along Goderich Street(7:00 am to 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday to Friday)
There will be some closures to the bike lane on Forster Street as the works progress along the street. We will maintain pedestrian and disabled access at all times around the worksite, but there may be some detours or changes to access. These changes will be clearly signposted.
If you are travelling through the area, please allow 8 minutes of extra travel time.
Construction and traffic impacts for stage two will be available in mid-2020.
Two community information sessions were held on 23 and 24 July 2019 at the Tramsheds Function Centre, 4 Invermay Road, Inveresk.
