About the project

The project includes increasing 1.9 kilometres of Evandale Road from two lanes to four, from the entrance to the Launceston Airport to the Breadalbane roundabout. A flexible safety barrier will be installed in sections along the road for increased safety.

1About the project

Duplicating Evandale Road will improve travel time reliability, improve road safety conditions and cater for the growing number of passenger and freight vehicles travelling on the road.

2Traffic impacts

Traffic conditions will change on Evandale Road from Monday, 20 December 2021.

Both lanes of traffic along a section of Evandale Road near the Breadalbane Roundabout will be diverted onto a newly constructed road.

The new road runs alongside the existing road, which will be closed to traffic to allow construction to continue.

These changes will remain in place until we finish these works in late 2022.

A reduced speed limit of 40 km/hr will be in place during our working hours, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, with a speed limit of 60 km/hr in place at all other times.

You should allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time during this work.

Please slow down, allow extra time and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.

Members of the community were given the opportunity to provide information to inform design options in late 2019.

You can download design documents, including the Roll Plan and cross section of the road design, below.

Works started in March 2021 and expected to be completed in late 2022, weather permitting.
