Northern Suburbs Transit Corridor

The Project is part of the Hobart City Deal and is jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments.

Survey works

We will be doing engineering surveys and geotechnical investigations around three bridges in New Town: at Risdon Road, Tower Road and New Town Rivulet, as part of early work on the Northern Suburbs Transit Corridor.

We will be doing engineering surveys and geotechnical investigations around these bridges over a 10-week period, from Tuesday, 17 May 2022 until late July 2022. These works will involve drilling boreholes, test pitting and site assessments.

We will work during the day and turn off machines when not in use to reduce noise.

There  there may be some additional traffic around the Risdon Road overpass from trucks entering and leaving the sites.

Intercity Cycleway closure and detours

We have finished drilling in the rail corridor and will start in the cycleway on Monday, 20 June 2022.

For safety reasons, the section of the cycleway between Albert Road, Moonah and Bay Road, New Town will be closed with detours in place from Monday, 20 June 2022 until Friday, 8 July 2022.

Signage and additional infrastructure such as kerb ramps will be installed, clearly marking the route.

Alternative Route 1 (blue) will accommodate pedestrians and cyclists.

Alternative Route 2 (green) is designed to be more accessible for people using mobility devices as it follows sealed pathways, has better lighting and safer road crossings.

Bridge investigations

We will need to close a single lane of Tower Road, New Town to allow bridge investigations in July 2022.
