1When will changes to the Northern bus network commence?

Changes to bus routes and timetables in Launceston and surrounding towns and regions will commence on 19 January 2020. This includes changes to services across Launceston and surrounding regions including the West Tamar, George Town, the Northern Midlands, the north east and the east coast.

2When will changes to the North West bus network commence?

The commencement of the new general access bus network for the north west region as well as intercity services between Hobart and Launceston, and Launceston and Devonport has been deferred until further notice.

You can continue to refer to this page for the latest information on the status of changes to bus networks.

A number of new bus stops across the North West region, particularly in Burnie and Devonport are required to support the new network once it is implemented. We have consulted with Councils, bus operators and adjacent land owners on the location and design of these new bus stops. Construction of some of these new stops has begun and others will begin in March and April 2020.

3When will changes to Mole Creek, Deloraine, Westbury and Carrick commence?

Services to Mole Creek, Deloraine, Westbury and Carrick are to align with changes in the North West coast with has been delayed until further notice due to Covid-19.

4If the operator of my bus service changes will this result in a higher fare?


Passengers travelling in the Launceston urban area will pay the published Metro fare for that route regardless of operator.

5If the operator of my bus service changes how will I pay for travel?

We are aware that some of the proposed bus network changes will require adjustments to how tickets and transfers are managed so that passengers will be able to travel with different or alternative operators, and will be releasing details of new ticketing arrangements for this soon.

One of the key areas impacted as part of the Northern bus network changes to come in January will be bus users in Riverside and Trevallyn. In the lead up to the necessary ticketing changes coming in the bus review team will be at Riverside Plaza (outside Woolworths), Launceston to talk about ticketing changes at the following dates/times:

Monday 13 January 2020, 3pm – 6pm and

Tuesday 14 January 2020, 9am – 12pm,

6How will I find out the results of the consultation on the North West region bus network and long distance services between Devonport and Launceston and Launceston and Hobart?

Now that consultation has closed we are in the process of analysing all feedback. Once all feedback has been reviewed we will release a public consultation report which will be published on the transport website in the beginning of 2020.

Changes to bus routes and timetables in the North West and surrounding towns and regions will commence on the 19 April 2020. The changes will include changes to services between Devonport and Launceston, and Launceston and Hobart.
