The Redline route 731 service departing Sorell at 7:30am was upgraded to an express route X31 Tuesday, 26 April 2022.
The X31 does not travel via Midway Point and Rosny. Travelling direct offers passengers a faster trip and means the bus is less affected by Tasman Highway roadwork delays.
Midway Point passengers that previously used the route 731 can instead catch the earlier route 732 service, departing Sorell at 7:20am, or travel to meet the route X31 service at Tasman Hwy/Penna Rd at 7:40am
We made this change to improve service reliability.
The 7:30am route 731 service was the most affected by South East Traffic Solution delays. This change ensures the morning Sorell to Hobart service arrives in Hobart on time, preventing flow-on network delays.
We acknowledge that this change will not solve all of the late running associated with roadworks in the region. There are five roadwork projects underway or scheduled to begin soon, and we will keep monitoring the impact on timetables.
To learn more about Carlton, Dodges Ferry and Sorell services, contact Redline at bookings@tasredline.com.au or 1300 360 000.

The full student fare increased by 10 cents on 1 January 2022.
If you use cash for a single trip ticket, the new fare is $1.90. If you use a smartcard or purchase a 10-trip ticket, the new fare is$1.52.
Smartcards like Greencard and Transportme can be topped up online. You can buy a 10-trip ticket for $15.20 from the bus driver.
Some students can travel or transfer between buses for free. Bus routes that travel only in a rural area, to the local school, don’t charge a fare.
The student fare last increased in 2019. The next increase was scheduled for January 2021 but was delayed to January 2022. This fare increase is set by government policy.
For more information see the Student Travel page, talk to your bus driver, or call 6166 3343 (9am to 5pm weekdays).
Changes took effect on 3 October 2021 and affect buses in north and north west Tasmania, as well as Intercity services between Devonport and Hobart.

Changes are based on community feedback and network performance. They fine-tune earlier network updates in north west Tasmania and the West Tamar region.
State Growth introduced a new general access bus network for north west Tasmania on 17 January 2021. It changed services in urban Devonport and Burnie, surrounding towns, and between Burnie, Devonport, Launceston, and Hobart.
State Growth has spent six months listening to public feedback and watching how the new network has settled in. The changes use what we have learned to further improve the general access network.
Thank you to everyone that gave feedback so that public transport can better connect Tasmania.
There were changes to Intercity route 700/702/705 services between Devonport and Hobart, operated by Redline.
There were timing changes of up to 10 minutes between Devonport and Hobart.
On weekdays
On weekends and public holidays
See the new Intercity route 700/702/705 timetable.
Intercity services now stay on the highway unless there is a passenger to collect or drop off.
You need to book in advance if you are travelling to or from Latrobe, Perth, Epping Forest, Ross, Oatlands, Kempton and Brighton.
This is in addition to existing bookings only for Conara Junction, Tunbridge and Melton Mowbray.
This makes Intercity services faster and more efficient.
To make a booking you can visit www.tasredline.com.au or call Redline on 1300 360 000.
The route 705 between Devonport to Launceston now services Latrobe differently.
When booked, services stop at the Mersey Community Hospital instead of the Bass Highway. The hospital stop is safer, easier to access, and has seats and a shelter.
Afternoon services to and from Devonport do not divert into Latrobe, even on request, and you need to connect in Devonport instead, using route 178.
There were changes to North West Express route 708 services between Devonport and Burnie, operated by MerseyLink.
It is now easier to connect between the North West Express (708) and Intercity (705) services.
Some services now leave Devonport at a different time:
This reduces the weekday afternoon transfer time from one hour to 10 minutes.
To make timings between Penguin and Ulverstone more accurate, the timetable has changed by up to six minutes in this area. You may need to be at your stop at a different time.
There is a new express stop on the Bass Highway near Reeves Street, to better service South Burnie.
See the new North West Express route 708 timetable.
There were changes to Devonport services, operated by MerseyLink.
If you use these services, you might need to be at your stop at a different time.
There was a minor timing change to Smithton route 768 services, operated by Redline.
On Saturday afternoons the route 768 to Smithton now leaves Burnie and all following bus stops 10 minutes earlier.
Leaving Burnie at 4.20pm instead of 4.30pm avoids confusion with the Wynyard bus leaving Burnie at 4.28pm.
See the new Smithton route 768 timetable.
There were minor timing changes to West Tamar services, operated by Manion's Coaches.
The Legana route 780/782 timetable changed by several minutes to improve on-time-running.

A new general access bus network for North West Tasmania commenced on 17 January 2021. This includes urban services in Devonport and Burnie, and intercity services between Devonport, Launceston and Hobart.
North West residents now have better access to jobs, education and services.
The changes follow an extensive community consultation period from September to October 2019.
Change summary
The new North West Express service links Burnie and Devonport via Penguin and Ulverstone seven days a week.
It operates hourly in each direction on weekdays and Saturdays, and two-hourly on Sundays.
This means your appointments can be more flexible and you have more travel options. You can travel when you need to because there are 30 services a week in each direction, which is 19 more than before.
Services between Devonport and Launceston/Hobart have increased. There are now six services a day on weekdays and four a day on Saturday and Sundays.
There are new Sunday services to towns including Smithton, Wynyard, Latrobe, Port Sorell, and Sheffield, and on key urban routes.
Bus stop changes
To support the new North West bus network, we invested in many new bus stops, particularly in Burnie and Devonport.
As part of this process we consulted with Councils, bus operators and adjacent land owners on the bus stop location and design.
All these stops are accessible (DDA compliant). This makes public transport easier for people with disabilities or travelling with prams.
See maps of new, upgraded, and removed bus stops in the North West.
Consultation
We engaged consultants to undertake a detailed review of Devonport and Burnie urban bus networks. This included community workshops held in Burnie and Devonport in 2017. After the workshops, Phillip Boyle and Associates developed a report recommending a new network.
View the Phillip Boyle and Associates report.
Following the release of the report, we did further planning. We worked with bus operators and local councils to refine the network and develop new timetables and routes.
An extensive public consultation process was undertaken from September to October 2019. This invited feedback on network and intercity services between Devonport, Launceston and Hobart.
As part of the consultation process we received a total of 297 responses.
Feedback showed a high level of support for proposed changes.
After listening to feedback from the community, we made some changes to refine routes and timetables.
For example we:
On 29 November 2020 a number of regional timetables changed to better reflect actual travel times.
Derby/Scottsdale/Bridport to Launceston
Timings at Branxholm, Legerwood, Underwood and Ringarooma have been adjusted.
See the updated route 777 timetable for accurate departure times.
George Town and Low Head to Launceston
Services now depart George Town and Low Head later on the inward trip and arrive at George Town and Low Head earlier on the outward trip.
See the updated route route 772 timetable for accurate departure times between Low Head and Dilston.
Tasman Peninsula to Hobart
On Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays, services to Hobart will now depart later at 7:50am and arrive at Nubeena 20 minutes earlier at 4:55pm.
The service to the Tasman Peninsula will still depart Hobart at 3:00pm.
See the updated route route 734 timetable for accurate departure times.
West Coast to Burnie
All inwards and outwards services now depart Zeehan five minutes earlier.
See the updated route route 747 timetable for accurate departure times.
The Bus Services Review project was a major four year project to provide existing bus operators a further contract.
New contracts are for 5 + 5 years, as long as the operator meet key performance conditions and there is an ongoing need for the service.
The project ended on 30 June 2020.
For more information see the Bus Services Review project page.
From 19 January 2020 to 19 April 2020 a number of bus operators started using the Transportme smartcard ticketing system.
A Transportme card can now be used on services operated by:
A Transportme card means you don’t need to carry cash to catch the bus and you save 20 per cent on normal fares.
You can use the Transportme app to recharge your card and access real time bus tracking to see where your bus is.
Apply for a Transportme card by selecting your operator from the list.
A new general access bus network for Northern Tasmania commenced on 19 January 2020. This includes Launceston and surrounding towns and regions.
Buses now provide better access to employment, education and other services.
The changes follow an extensive community consultation period from April to June 2019.
Change summary
The changes include more direct routes, more frequent services, and new Sunday services.
New timetables provide more consistent departure times, improved reliability and minimised transfer times.
In a big win for commuters across the broader Launceston city area. A new high frequency cross-city route links the university and Kings Meadows. It travels via Mowbray, Invermay, Inveresk, the city, Launceston General Hospital and Six Ways.
Across the region, there are now more services more often to major towns, including Legana, Exeter, George Town, Perth and Bridport. There are better links for the West Tamar, north east, east coast and Northern Midlands areas.
There are trial services to address concerns raised during consultation in Riverside/Trevallyn and Waverley/Ravenswood.
Consultation
An extensive public consultation process was undertaken from April to June 2019. This invited feedback on the Metro urban Launceston network and the Northern regional network.
During the consultation process we received a total of 388 responses. Of these, 181 related to the urban Launceston network, and 207 related to the Northern regional network.
As a result of this feedback, we changed some routes and timetables.
For example we added more Coles Bay services, and maintained the Blackstone Heights route through Neptune Drive and Glover Avenue.
After we released the consultation report, we made some more minor changes to make timetables accurate.
See the Northern public consultation report.
From 19 January 2020, any concession card accepted on the urban network is also accepted on the non-urban and regional network.
Before, different concession eligibility criteria applied for urban and non-urban areas.
Concession fares in non-urban and regional areas will continue to be distance-based fares, set at half the price of a full adult fare.
For more information see the Concessions page.
Some changes to fares were introduced in northern Tasmania on 19 January 2020.
All passengers travelling within urban Launceston pay the equivalent Metro urban fare, regardless of operator.
Where two or more bus operators in northern Tasmania provide a service along a common corridor, the lowest fare will be charged. If the operator uses a smartcard ticketing system which offers a discounted fare, passengers must use the card to access the discount.
To access updated fare tables see the Fares page.
