If there is not a school bus service nearby, you may be eligible for a conveyance allowance payment.

A conveyance allowance contributes to the cost of transporting a child to school or the closest bus stop using a car or air travel.

The payment is calculated individually for each family.

Types of conveyance allowance

The car conveyance allowance recognises that it is not practical to run a school bus service close to every child’s home in regional Tasmania.

To be eligible, your child must:

  • live more than five kilometres from the nearest intake area school, educationally appropriate school, or bus stop
  • live outside an area with an urban bus service
  • be aged between the ages of 5 and 18 when you apply
  • be enrolled full time, for the full year (kindergarten is considered full time)
  • be enrolled at a school recognised by the Department of Education.

To apply, complete the Car Conveyance Allowance application form.

The air conveyance allowance recognises students on Bass Strait Islands may need to travel to mainland Tasmania to access education.

To be eligible your child must:

  • live on a Bass Strait Island
  • be in grade 11 or 12 OR needs to attend an appropriate school on mainland Tasmania
  • be aged between the ages of 5 and 18 when you apply
  • be enrolled full time, for the full year
