Physical distancing is still important so give others plenty of space where you can. This includes on the bus and at the bus stop
Where there is available space, spread out as much as you can and leave a spare seat between passengers where not from the same family or household.
When queuing for and boarding the bus try to keep a minimum distance of one metre from other passengers.
Adults seeking to board a bus which has a high number of passengers are asked to consider waiting for the next service where available. This request does not apply to children and they won’t be left behind.
Plan ahead and avoid peak periods between 7:00am and 9:00am and between 2:30pm and 5:30pm as buses are not as full in non-peak periods.
For short trips or if you can, get active and walk, jog or cycle instead.
Avoid touching surfaces inside the bus whenever you can and don’t touch your face.
Current health advice does not recommend the wearing of masks or other protective items on public transport.
To help protect you, the cleaning of buses has increased with particular attention paid to high touch surfaces like stop buttons, door handles, handrails and grab straps.
High-contact areas are a focus, but it still pays to keep what you touch to a minimum.
School buses are being cleaned twice a day, once in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Fare amnesty has ended
The fare amnesty previously in place for bus services across the state has now ended.
All passengers are now required to pay the appropriate fare for their travel.
Passengers that have not yet accessed a smartcard and non-cash credit top up arrangement should do so as soon as possible to minimise the frequency of cash handling on the bus.
Where there is no smartcard option, such as on some school bus services, ask your bus operator about purchasing a multi-trip ticket to reduce the number of cash transactions.
Always comply with requests from bus drivers – they are providing a critical service for the Tasmanian community and are doing a great job.
Practice good hand hygiene, avoid touching your face, cough or sneeze into your elbow and use hand sanitiser before and after catching the bus.
Most of all, if you are unwell please don’t catch the bus.
