Auction Requirements

Requirements for the Registration of Vehicles Sold at Auction

Invoice/Receipt Must be issued by either an:
- Auction House
- Auction Group or
- Auto Wholesaler
Description of Vehicle The receipt must show the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or Chassis Number of the vehicle or sufficient detail that proves that it is the same vehicle (e.g. registration number, engine number, make, model, colour, year etc)
Registration Plates

If the vehicle record on the Motor Registry System (MRS) shows that the plates have not been returned and the client does not have the registration plates they are to complete a Statutory Declaration stating that the vehicle was purchased without registration plates attached. Usually the receipt will state if the vehicle is sold without the registration plates.


If the receipt states that the vehicle was sold in a damaged condition or as a total loss and it has not been recorded on the MRS as written off (this can be checked on the Registration Status Page) please phone Service Tasmania on 1300 135 513 or international +61 3 6233 8011 prior to attending a Service Tasmania shop
