Bicycle rack number plates
If you have a bicycle rack fitted to your vehicle, you must ensure that the vehicle’s number plate remains clearly visible from a distance of 20 metres and that no dangerous protrusions are evident.
If the rear number plate of your motor vehicle is obscured because of a bicycle rack or loaded bicycle/s, you can either:
- obtain a bike rack number plate from any Service Tasmania Shop and attach this to your bicycle rack (a fee applies); or
- remove the bicycle rack; or
- reposition the bicycles.
Hand-painted plates or replica number plates are not permitted to be used.
For further information in relation to bicycle carriers, please refer to the Guidelines for the use of bicycle carriers on our Vehicle Standards Information Bulletins webpage.
