Bass Highway - Wynyard Junctions Safety Improvements
The Tasmanian and Australian Governments have committed funding for safety improvements at a number of junctions on the Bass Highway at Wynyard. A number of these safety improvements have recently been completed.
Why have we done work on this road?
The Department has worked closely with the Waratah-Wynyard Council to address community concerns regarding safety at the intersections within this section of highway.
Safety improvements have recently been completed at the following intersections:
- Calder Road and York Street
- Inglis Street
- Deep Creek Road
- Reservoir Drive*.
The project design included a dedicated right turn lane at the intersection of Oldina Street, and the closure of Wilkinson Street. It is the Department’s view that these will provide the best safety outcomes for the community at this intersection. However as Wilkinson Street is a council road, the road will not be closed without the support of Waratah-Wynyard Council, so these works are currently on hold.
*This part of the project is funded by the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.
This project is located on the Bass Highway, Wynyard, along a section of road commonly known as the Wynyard bypass.
