Bass Highway – Wynyard to Marrawah – Corridor Strategy

The Department of State Growth is developing a corridor strategy for the Bass Highway between Wynyard and Marrawah.

Why is the Department of State Growth developing this strategy?

This strategy will identify road transport challenges. It will look at potential improvements and upgrades in the short, medium and long term.

The corridor strategy will prioritise improvements and upgrades. It will take into account the current road condition, and the growth in the agricultural, forestry and tourism industries using the road.

Planning

The strategy will help shape future projects. The information gathered will help plan improvements and upgrades, and prioritise them for funding approval. The Department will continue to consult with the community and key stakeholders throughout the project.

Community engagement

We asked the community to tell us their concerns or make suggestions about this section of the highway. The consultation period closed on Friday 7 June.

We received 239 pieces of feedback from the community, through comments left on our online interactive map and Facebook page, completed feedback forms, emails and phone calls.

We have completed a report collating all the feedback received during the consultation period, and our response to that feedback: Consultation and Feedback Report - Bass Highway Wynyard to Marrawah

You can also view the feedback and comments provided during the consultation period on our interactive map.

Next steps

The Corridor Strategy is expected to be released in late 2019.

The Boat Harbour Primary School Improved Turning Facilities project is expected to start construction in late 2019. A timeframe for the delivery of other projects will be provided in the Corridor Strategy and implementation plan.
