Bass Highway - Cooee to Wynyard Planning Study

The Department of State Growth has completed a planning study along the Bass Highway between Cooee and Wynyard, to identify areas to improve travel time reliability and safety. This study was funded by the Australian Government.

About the study

Location

The Cooee to Wynyard Planning Study looked at the section of Bass Highway from the intersection with Brickport Road in Cooee to the intersection of Old Bass Highway at Wynyard.

What was the purpose of this planning study?

The purpose of the study was to improve network travel time reliability and safety by developing a Corridor Improvement Plan. The Plan identifies and prioritises areas of improvement along the corridor for both roads and bridges.

Study outcomes

The result of this study is a Corridor Improvement Plan. The Plan identifies improvements and priority projects for future funding requests.

Community members, business owners and key stakeholders provided valuable input and suggested improvements for the highway.

In the 2019 election campaign, the Australian Government committed $40M towards delivering the improvements identified in the study.

The Department will work closely with Waratah - Wynyard and Burnie City Councils to implement the corridor improvements, starting with the projects identified as high priority.
