Channel Highway North of Margate Safety improvements

The Department of State Growth is undertaking safety improvements on the Channel Highway just north of Margate.  The work will involve widening the northbound lane for about 300 metres, next to the access to property numbers 1511, 1521 and 1531 Channel Highway.

About the project

Why is the Department of State Growth doing work on this road?

The work will provide safer turning movements for vehicles wanting to turn right into three accesses off the Channel Highway.  This will also allow straight ahead traffic to safely move past vehicles waiting to turn right.

Construction update - March 2019

Roadworks started in January 2019 and are nearing completion. To complete these important works, night works will start from Sunday 3 March, to minimise disruption to the travelling public on this busy road.

Working hours will be between 7:00 pm and 5:30 am from Sunday to Thursday. Works will be complete by the end of March 2019, weather permitting.

Occasionally works will take place during the day, but these will only take place between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm to minimise disruption.

Traffic management

Reduced speed limits at the work site are necessary for the safety of workers and the travelling public, so please slow down, approach the work site with caution and follow all traffic control instructions.

At times traffic will be reduced to a single lane and this may cause delays. Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey if traveling through the works.
