Tasman Highway - Hobart Airport to Midway Point causeway
About the Project
This project will improve safety and reduce congestion by increasing the Tasman Highway to two lanes each way between the Airport roundabout and the Midway Point Causeway.
The project also provides safe access to Pittwater Road, the Tasmanian Golf Club and Barilla Bay Oysters.
This project will need to balance significant environmental values with the needs of local businesses to find an appropriate solution. Two options are provided showing the alternative solutions currently being considered.
A roundabout allows full access to all side roads. Traffic flow on the highway can still be maintained as only low numbers of vehicles use the side roads. There are low numbers of road users from side roads so traffic flow on the highway will be maintained.
This option increases the Tasman Highway to two lanes each way on the southern side. It includes a roundabout to provide access to Pittwater Road and the Tasmania Golf Club and Barilla Bay Oysters.
This option impacts private property in bushland that contains threatened native vegetation communities.
