West Tamar Highway Priority Projects

The Tasmanian Government has developed a six-point plan to address high priority projects along the West Tamar Highway.

About the project

The Department of State Growth is upgrading four sections of the West Tamar Highway. This project will improve the liveability of communities along the highway by making the highway safer, and improving travel time reliability to and from Launceston.

The proposed upgrades include:

North of Rosevears Drive to Gravelly Beach Road

  • Road widening.
  • Sealed shoulders.
  • A new footpath on the eastern side.
  • Vegetation clearing and sight benching for better visibility.
  • Improved stormwater drainage.

Atkinsons Road to Waldhorn Drive

  • Shoulder widening.
  • Road resurfacing and line marking.

Exeter to Batman Highway

  • New overtaking opportunities.

Motor Road Junction

  • Vegetation clearing and sight benching for better visibility.

Concept designs for these projects have been developed, and are now open for community consultation.
