Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management
The Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management was released in December 2019.
Following the release of the Guide, the Department of State Growth’s intention was for all traffic management practices in Tasmania to be in accordance with the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management by 1 July 2020.
While many organisations have already taken the opportunity to become familiar with and apply parts of the Guide to their operations, the Department has taken measures to ensure the implementation of the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (AGTTM) is not impacted by current events, in particular the availability of suitable training opportunities.
The Department has therefore extended the implementation date of the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management in Tasmania from 1 July 2020, to 1 January 2021.
The intention of this decision is to allow time for everyone in the traffic management industry to manage the impacts that COVID-19 has had on their business.

The Austroads Board have been working on a project to refine traffic management at road works, by developing and simplifying guidance documents, and improving training and consistency across Australia. This has included a review and update of the current Australian Standard 1742.3 which was launched on 11 December 2019.
The Austroads Board have updated the standard to improve the ability of road agencies, contractors, traffic management practitioners and industry to meet their Work Health and Safety (WH&S) requirements, and achieve better safety outcomes at road works sites.
This project aims to standardise the approach to temporary traffic management across Australia and in New Zealand.
