The original scope of the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management included a dedicated part of the Guide for device approval. A national working group was also included in the scope to assess and approve temporary traffic management devices, which would then be adopted in Tasmania.
Due to the difficulty of a national approach and other considerations, the Austroads project team removed this part of the Guide before its release in December 2019. Each jurisdiction is now responsible for assessing and approving the use of temporary traffic management devices.
Austroads will develop a national assessment scheme for traffic control devices to integrate this practice. This will also reduce the burden associated with individual jurisdictional assessments. Once this scheme has been developed and implemented, Tasmania will join this national scheme.
