About the project

The Tasman Highway Sideling Upgrade is a program of works between St Patricks River and Minstone Road, Scottsdale, aimed at improving safety, travel reliability and freight efficiency.

The program spans approximately 24.5 kilometres through the Sideling Range, where steep grades, narrow road widths, winding sections and limited overtaking opportunities can affect safety, travel times and freight movements.

Completed and planned improvements include upgrades to road alignment, lane widths and shoulders to support safer and more reliable travel, improve freight efficiency, and strengthen connections for local communities, businesses and visitors across north-east Tasmania.

This section covers approximately 10 kilometres of the Tasman Highway between Sideling Lookout and the Corkerys Road intersection.

Following community consultation in 2025, we are assessing a range of options, including upgrades to the existing highway and alternative route options. This work will help identify the best approach to improve safety, travel reliability and freight efficiency for road users.

The assessment will inform future decisions about the preferred route and scope of works.
