About the project
The Arthur Highway Road Improvement Strategy, released in April 2025, identified a range of improvements between Sorell and Port Arthur to support safer, more efficient, and more reliable travel for all road users.
Designs are currently being developed for seven high-priority projects identified through the strategy.
The proposed works include additional overtaking opportunities at Dunalley, Taranna and Forcett, intersection upgrades at Forcett and Eaglehawk Neck, and enhanced pedestrian access in Dunalley.
Community feedback will help inform the next stage of planning and design before the projects progress further.
Community consultation
Community consultation will be open from 9:00 am on Thursday, 27 August 2026 until 9:00 am on Friday, 25 September 2026.
During this time, community members and stakeholders will have an opportunity to review the proposed designs and provide feedback on planned improvements along the Arthur Highway.
Further information about how to get involved, including where to view project information and provide feedback, will be published on this webpage when consultation opens.

The designs for the following seven projects will be available for review and feedback.
- Forcett towards Sorell - overtaking lane
- Sugarloaf Road - junction improvement
- Dunalley towards Copping - overtaking lane
- Dunalley to Bay Road shared pathway and Bay Road junction improvements
- Dunalley towards Murdunna - overtaking lane
- Pirates Bay Drive - junction improvement
- Taranna towards Port Arthur - overtaking lane
