Helmet exemption
Everyone who rides a motorcycle or bicycle is required by law to wear an approved helmet. It can be very unsafe to not wear a helmet while riding.
We will not grant a helmet exemption for a motorcycle.
If you wish to apply for an exemption from wearing a bicycle helmet you will need to lodge a letter of application by:
- visiting Service Tasmania
- mail to the Road Safety Branch
- GPO 536 Hobart TAS 7001
- by email to info@stategrowth.tas.gov.au.
You may be contacted to with a request for additional information to support your request, such as a medical certificate.
