Traffic response tow trucks

The Traffic Incident Response Team is there to help keep you safe and make sure traffic keeps flowing on Hobart's main roads.

This is not a towing service - the Traffic Incident Response Team will get you quickly back on the road again, or remove you, your passengers and your vehicle to a safe place where you can organise your own tow.

The driver may ask you a series of questions to work out whether your vehicle can be restarted quickly, needs a tow, or if police help is needed.

If your vehicle needs towing, the driver will ask you to move to a safe place, which may include the cab of the tow truck.

The driver will tell you where your vehicle will be towed to. This will allow you to start making arrangements with your insurer, or preferred tow truck operator.

The driver will transport you and your vehicle to a nearby safe place away from the main road, free of charge. From there you are responsible for seeking any further assistance.

Note: if any passengers are younger than 8 years old and the vehicle requires towing, Tasmania Police will be called to transport the children.

There is no cost to the driver or owner of the vehicle for this service.

Note: This does not apply if you are towed for parking illegally in a clearway zone on Macquarie Street. If you are towed from a clearway zone in Macquarie Street, you will be charged a towing fee. Find out more on clearway zones.

Tow trucks currently service the following routes.

• Southern Outlet, Hobart, from 7:00 am to 9:30 am and 3.30 pm to 6:00 pm.
• Macquarie Street and Davey Street, from 7:00 am to 9:30 am and 3.30 pm to 6:00 pm (this is separate to the Macquarie Street clearway zone towing policy).
• Brooker Highway south of Berriedale Road, from 7:00 am to 9:30 am and 3.30 pm to 6:00 pm.
• Tasman Highway west of Holyman Avenue, from 7:00 am to 9:30 am and 3.30 pm to 6:00 pm.
• East Derwent Highway south of Gordons Hill Road, from 7:00 am to 9:30 am and 3.30 pm to 6:00 pm.
• Tasman Bridge, from 7:00 am - 6:00 pm.

For incidents and crashes where there are no injuries and all parties have exchanged details, police attendance is not necessary.

You may still need to report the crash on the Tasmania Police website.

For incidents involving injuries, you may need to wait for Tasmania Police to arrive on the scene.
