About the project

During the morning peak period, vehicles travelling from the Southern Outlet towards Olinda Grove can queue along the off‑ramp. At times, these queues extend back into the left northbound lane of the Southern Outlet, creating delays and increasing the risk of crashes.

To help manage these conditions, new traffic signals will be introduced to meter traffic coming from Mount Nelson when queuing occurs on the off‑ramp. This will help prevent traffic from building back onto the Southern Outlet and support safer and more efficient movement through the roundabout.

The traffic signals will only activate when queues form on the left northbound off‑ramp from the Southern Outlet to Olinda Grove.

  • Traffic from Mount Nelson onto Olinda Grove will be metered to allow space for vehicles exiting the Southern Outlet.
  • Vehicles leaving the Southern Outlet will be prioritised through the roundabout, reducing the likelihood of congestion spilling back onto the highway.

This targeted, part‑time operation ensures that the signals only influence traffic when needed and are not active during periods of low demand.

There may be times when drivers travelling along Olinda Grove from Mount Nelson towards the Southern Outlet or Proctors Road experience short delays.

These delays will vary depending on traffic volumes on the Southern Outlet and the need to manage queuing on the off‑ramp.

As part of the project, we will also be installing traffic monitoring cameras on Olinda Grove and near Proctors Road. These will support real‑time traffic management, particularly during peak periods, and help us respond quickly to incidents or changing conditions.

Timing

More detailed information about how the new traffic signals will operate will be provided before construction begins. We will continue to keep the community updated as the project progresses.
