Kingborough Council is upgrading Browns Road in Kingston starting Sunday 15 March 2026. The work will be completed in three phases. During each phase, there will be changes to bus routes and bus stops on Browns Road and Groningen Road. This will impact passengers catching southbound (towards Kingston) general access and school bus services. There will be no changes to northbound (towards Hobart) routes.

Throughout all phases, southbound routes 407-417, 500, and 709-719 will not stop on the Channel Highway (opposite Wetlands Park and Ride). The closest bus stop for impacted passengers is the Kingston Central interchange.

See below for information about further impacts during each phase.

1. Phase one – starting Sunday 15 March 2026

During phase one, buses travelling from Hobart towards Kingston will not travel via Browns Road or Firthside.

Passengers for these stops should transfer at Kingston Central interchange to northbound (towards Hobart) services to travel back to Browns Road and Firthside. Wait times for interchanging services are less than 15 minutes at peak travel times but may be longer during the middle of the day.

For more information about transfer arrangements, contact Passenger Transport on (03) 6166 3343 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm, M-F) or at ptfeedback@stategrowth.tas.gov.au.

2. Phase two – starting Sunday 29 March 2026

During phase two, the southbound bus stop (for buses travelling from Hobart towards Kingston) on Browns Road will be temporarily relocated to the turning circle at the beginning (eastern end) of Groningen Road, Firthside, see map below:

Map

The temporary bus stop on Groningen Road is approximately 400 metres from the stop on Browns Road. There will be no timetable changes.

3. Phase three – timing to be advised

During phase three, buses travelling from Hobart towards Kingston will not travel via Browns Road or Firthside.

Passengers for these stops should transfer at Kingston Central interchange to northbound (towards Hobart) services to travel back to Browns Road and Firthside. Wait times for interchanging services are less than 15 minutes at peak travel times but may be longer during the middle of the day.
