Preferred sites identified for park and ride.

Following assessment of multiple sites, two locations on high frequency bus corridors have been agreed for further investigation by the Department of State Growth and the City of Launceston:

  • Invermay Road in Mowbray; and
  • Westbury Road corridor, in Prospect.

Park and ride facilities have been shown to increase public transport usage, providing commuters with a comfortable and easy alternative to driving.

The next stage is for work to be undertaken on concept designs for the two sites. If the locations work as required, a decision on whether to proceed will be made in consultation with Council. More details on the location of the sites and consultation with the community will occur once further discussions with Council on concept designs are completed.

All sites are being considered against a base framework which includes location, potential patronage levels, a site’s suitability for a park and ride, value for money, including any land acquisition costs, and proximity to the CBD and existing public transport services.
