You can use vehicles registered in another state in Tasmania for three months.
After three months, the vehicle will need Tasmanian registration.

If you are buying an unregistered vehicle interstate. You must establish the vehicle's registration in Tasmania. Please refer to ‘Vehicle Registration and Permits’.
If you buy a vehicle without plates or unregistered. You must buy a short-term unregistered vehicle permit in the state or territory where your journey begins. Or arrange to transport the vehicle to Tasmania.

If you cancel your Tasmanian registration. You may apply for a refund of the remaining components: MAIB and motor tax.
