Replacement plates:
- have a new combination of digits
- you will receive the new plates at time of purchase.
To get replacement plates:
- complete an Application for Replacement Number Plates (MR30) (PDF 198.2 KB)
- submit it at Service Tasmania along with your:
- certificate of registration
- driver licence or evidence of identity
- any remaining plates
- authorisation from the registered operator if needed.
- pay the fee.
Duplicate plates:
- have the same digits as your previous plates
- after ordering your plates there is a period of 4-6 weeks to manufacture
- you can nominate to have the plates mailed to your mailing address or collect the plates at Service Tasmania
- if you nominate to collect the plates from Service Tasmania you will be notified by mail when the plates are ready for collection.
To get duplicate plates:
- complete an Application for a Duplicate Plate (MR171) (PDF 182.1 KB)
- submit it at Service Tasmania along with your:
- certificate of registration
- driver licence or evidence of identity
- a statutory declaration if plates were stolen or lost
- authorisation from the registered operator if needed.
- pay the fee.
What if I have lost my plates interstate?
You can apply for a replacement or duplicate set of plates by:
- handing in any remaining plates at a Transport Department and obtaining a plate receipt
- complete an Application for a Duplicate Plate (MR171) (PDF 182.1 KB)
- emailing your application to tes@stategrowth.tas.gov.au with your:
- copy of your plate receipt
- copy of your driver licence or evidence of identity
- statutory declaration if plates were stolen or lost
- mailing address the plates can be sent to
- authorisation from the registered operator if needed.
- pay the fee.
