Important Information: Your application will not be approved unless your event and sign design comply with the department's Guidelines - Temporary Roadside Signs for Advertising Community Events - Effective 1 January 2026

Please read the key points below before applying

  1. Eligible Events:
    • State Growth will only allow temporary signage to be erected that is advertising a community event.
    • A ‘community event’ is defined as ‘a gathering of people, which is free or ticketed, at a predetermined location, for a specific purpose of general community interest, and for a specified date, or dates, and/or time’. It includes things like school fairs, special/annual sporting events, craft exhibitions, town festivals, local markets, school open days and not-for-profit charity events.
    • Signs must only advertise a definable event, or a series of events (e.g. a festival or regularly held markets) that the community can physically attend or participate in. Signs cannot be for general advertising of a business or organisation, or the services they provide. This includes general advertising about upcoming school enrolment dates or scholarship opportunities.
    • Signs advertising regular season sports games will not be allowed, however, signs advertising special games, such as memorial cups, may be deemed eligible.
    • A community event will generally be a not-for-profit event but if it is for-profit, must demonstrate that multiple parties will benefit from the event, such as local businesses engaged to run the event, participants, performers, etc.
    • Signs advertising events of a political nature will not be allowed.
  2. Sign Design:
    • Signs must be easily read and should only contain the following information:
      • Name of event.
      • Location of event.
      • Date(s) of event.
      • Time(s) of event (if applicable).
    • Signs must not include:
      • Admission fees
      • Phone numbers
      • Email addresses
      • Website addresses
      • QR codes.

    • Unauthorised signs, signs installed contrary to the permit conditions, or signs displayed in locations that are not pre-approved by State Growth may be removed without notice by State Growth’s maintenance contractor.
