Changes for learner licence holders of other classes
The following changes for novice motorcycle riders will apply from 1 December 2020.
Motorcycle riders will have a single licence card for both their learner and provisional periods. This will mean fewer visits are required to Service Tasmania and will reduce licence fees.
Riders progressing to the P2 stage from December will be required to display a green P2 plate. This is consistent with the new requirement for P2 drivers.
If you already have a P2 licence before 1 December you will not be required to display a green P Plate.
Heavy vehicle learners will now have a new maximum speed limit of 90km/h even when a higher speed limit applies. This means the maximum speed limit will now be 90km/h, even in a 110km/h zone.
This is consistent with changes to the maximum speed for car learner licence holders.
Non-novice learners with a car licence will now have a new maximum speed limit of 90km/h even when a higher speed limit applies. This means the maximum speed limit will now be 90km/h, even in a 110km/h zone.
This is consistent with changes to the maximum speed for novice car learner licence holders.
They will also have the same total mobile phone ban as novice learners.
